A free player can still get considerable enjoyment out of the game without payment. I would consider Achaea more Free2Play as opposed to Pay2Win. Haters will say its p2w, but its reasonably easy to get credits. So yeah, that's my take on IRE's p2wness. You can easily obtain the credits for an SoA ingame. They both only benefit greatly from a Shield of Absorption, which gives added health.

I'll also point out that credits can be purchased with in-game currency, or obtained other ways (I think mentors get a small percentage bonus from any credits their proteges buy, for instance, and there are credit prizes for things like artisanal contests). But 'pay for a levelling accelerator' is not 'pay to win' unless you want to get very liberal about your interpretation of the phrase. That said, a stat advantage does pretty reliably help you clear PvE content faster (better stats means more damage means mobs die faster), so it does pretty handily accelerate your leveling (much like paid bonuses in other F2P games). I'd say the dependence on scripting is a much more significant factor than anything you can buy for credits. However, someone with a stat advantage but no PvP scripts will still get trounced soundly by someone with PvP scripts and no stat advantage because scripts can react instantly before you even mentally process what happened, and your stats don't do you any good if you're blind, deaf, and had all your limbs broken. Yes, you can buy a direct stat advantage that is not obtainable without spending 'credits' (the paid currency in all their games). It's not 'pay to win' by a literal interpretation of the phrase.
